Planning Your Coastal Dining Room

We want our coastal dining rooms to be casual yet elegant for us as well as welcoming and flexible for our guests.  Here are a few key elements of coastal dining rooms to get you started as you plan yours!

1. Choose your color palette.  Relaxed and serene color palettes help define the modern coastal dining room.  Typical coastal color palettes include neutrals, blues, whites, and wood tones. Using these colors in your decor reflect the beauty and elegance of the coastline.   

Layer whites and natural wood tones.  Here, Becca Interiors used white shiplap walls, woven pendant lights and window shades to create a welcoming dining space.  

Paint your walls blue-gray. Christina Kim Interior Design painted the wood paneled walls of this coastal dining room in a moody blue-gray that evokes the sea on a cloudy day.

Bring in the bold navy.   Navy blue is a staple of costal dining room color palettes.  It's bold, it's blue, it's nautical, it's elegant.  Adding navy blue to a neutral colored space makes a dining space feel more coastal and help achieve that relaxed and elegant feeling.  

2. Choose the right light for your space.

These beautiful textures - beads, rope, and rattan - really embody the coastal aesthetic and enhance the natural light in your dining space.  The advantage of these materials is that you can use larger fixtures in a small or large dining space without overwhelming the room.   

3. Roll out a statement rug

Utilize a statement rug to add color and ground your dining space.  Vivid and muted nautical blues bring the coast inside your dining room.
