Mahogany Chippendale with Shell Mirror
This design is a classic late 18th Century looking glass. It is distinguished by its pierced and inlaid shell medallion at the top center, flanked by scrolled leaves and side garlands of acorns, leaves, and flowers. This mirror design can be dated after 1770 by the characteristic treatment of the fillet, undulated at the top corner but squared at the bottom. The ornamentation on the striped mahogany fretwork panel is all hand laid antique gold leaf and highlighted by beveled glass.
